We Are All In This Together

Welcome to School Reopening

The purpose of this webpage is to provide parents, students, and the community access to detailed information about the school reopening structure and procedures that we will be implementing starting on the first day of school.

Our charge as a district during this challenging time is to fulfill two obligations. Our first obligation is to ensure the health and safety of all students, teachers, and staff. Our second obligation is to provide a high quality and engaging learning environment and experience for all students. We are confident that we can meet these obligations with the support and commitment of all parents, students, and community members. Our best plan of action is to rely on each other to be flexible and nimble in our thinking and our collective action. We are all in this together.

We have designed the school reopening plan as a webpage in an effort to continue to build out the resources and information. Additionally, the webpage format will better position us to make strategic updates and revisions to the plan in the event that the state and county health orders change. All of our planning was closely aligned with the California Department of Education Distance Learning Guidance

Important Information from the VUSD Community Update: September 18, 2020

The county of San Diego may be moved from tier two (red) to the lowest tier (purple) on Tuesday, September 22nd in California’s new COVID-19 monitoring system, Blueprint for a Safer Economy. This potential change in status is a result of the average number of new  COVID-19 cases rising above a rate of 7.0 per 100,000 residents. The California Department of Health has also clarified that the new “purple” tier designation means Vista Unified and other schools and school districts in San Diego County may not be permitted to open our campuses for in-person instruction until the County has returned to the red tier and been in the red tier for two weeks (October 27th at the earliest). There is an informative article in the San Diego Union-Tribune that outlines this new information. The California Department of Public Health has authorized the County of San Diego to resume a process for schools to apply for reopening waivers, and we are exploring the new waiver option in order to resume in-person instruction for our elementary campuses (TK-5) on October 20, 2020.  All of the supplemental programs that Vista Unified has already started will be allowed to continue uninterrupted: Special Education, Dual Language, First Grade, English Learner, Foster Youth, and Homeless Youth.
