We Are All In This Together

Secondary Students Return to Campus 5 Days a Week Starting on April 5, 2021

On Tuesday, March 23rd, the Vista Unified School Board voted unanimously to return middle and high school students who chose Vista Classic to full-time in-person learning five days a week starting after spring break on April 5, 2021. Our district is thrilled that we are now able to follow through on our commitment to parent choice for Vista Classic (in-person) or Vista Virtual (remote) learning. The teams at each of our schools have been making preparations for this return. Our schools are ready with all of the health and safety mitigation measures in place including mandatory mask wearing for all students and staff, daily health self-checks, hand washing stations, social distancing, temperature checks, outdoor learning environments, classroom cleaning, sanitizing, etc. Please keep in mind that our Vista Virtual students will also benefit from this change by returning to fully live synchronous teaching and learning five days a week. One of the agreements with our collective bargaining association is to allow teachers to have one asynchronous day (either Thursday or Friday) to make the necessary arrangements for the shift to fully in-person learning. As a result, some students will be shifting to asynchronous learning for a day, either tomorrow or Friday.

Each principal will send out a personalized notification to the parents and students in the coming week outlining the schedule and procedures that will be in place starting on Monday, April 5, 2021. We have made arrangements to implement appropriate transportation and nutritional services so that students receive what they need.

Thank you to all of the students and families for your patience and flexibility as we work to navigate the adjustments to the state regulations. The great news is that our students who chose Vista Classic can spend the last few months of the school year reconnecting with their peers and deepening their relationships with teachers and staff. This is a great way to end the school year!

Health and safety is everyone’s responsibility. In order for our return to Vista Classic to be successful, we need the full support of students and families to practice good safety measures when they are not in school. This means that during the spring break period, students and families need to wear masks, practice social distancing, and stay away from large gatherings that may serve to spread the virus. Additionally, anyone who travels outside of California should follow the CDPH Travel Advisory. Thank you for your consideration, we are all in this together.

Welcome to School Reopening

The purpose of this webpage is to provide parents, students, and the community access to detailed information about the school reopening structure and procedures that we will be implementing starting on the first day of school.

Our charge as a district during this challenging time is to fulfill two obligations. Our first obligation is to ensure the health and safety of all students, teachers, and staff. Our second obligation is to provide a high quality and engaging learning environment and experience for all students. We are confident that we can meet these obligations with the support and commitment of all parents, students, and community members. Our best plan of action is to rely on each other to be flexible and nimble in our thinking and our collective action. We are all in this together.

We have designed the school reopening plan as a webpage in an effort to continue to build out the resources and information. Additionally, the webpage format will better position us to make strategic updates and revisions to the plan in the event that the state and county health orders change. All of our planning was closely aligned with the California Department of Education Distance Learning Guidance
