Rancho Buena Vista High School


Rancho Buena Vista High School opened in 1987 in southern Vista as the district's second comprehensive high school. It was named a California Distinguished school in 1994 and 2003 and a National Blue Ribbon School from in 1990 and 1994. It was the first public high school in the state to adopt the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and has been named a World School by the organization that oversees the program.In November 2012, the City of Vista recognized RBV for its innovative prevention and intervention efforts, including Pet Encounter Therapy, Project AWARE and Natural High.“Breaking Down the Walls” has been a popular character building program at RBV since 2003. In this weeklong event, students are given the opportunity to learn about themselves and others in order to facilitate a strong sense of acceptance and community on campus.

The school has nearly 2,800 students in grades nine through 12 and more than 100 teachers. The Parent-Teacher-Student-Association plays a large role in providing students with both academic and non-academic opportunities throughout their high school experience.Longhorn Foundation helps to provide a variety of clubs and sports on campus with financial support. The Patrons of Students Striving for Academic Challenge also provide support to our Honors and International Baccalaureate programs.
