On January 1, 2014, California Education Code Section 60640 established the CAASPP System of assessments.

The CAASPP - CalEdFacts Web page provides a more detailed overview of the system.

The CAASPP System (PDF) includes the following required assessments and additional resources:

The California Science Test (CAST) is fully operational this year for 5th, 8th, and 12th graders. Here is an informational video about the CAST. CAST VIDEO

The CAASPP umbrella of assessments includes The Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC) and has been the state approved assessment for schools for more than four years. This assessment is aligned with the Common Core Standards adopted by the state of California and measures progress in ELA and math in grades 3 - 8, and 11. For some students, the California Alternative Assessment (CAA) is the appropriate test to measure progress in ELA, math, and science. This year, the California Science Test (CAST) will be operational for grades 5, 8, and 12.

  • CAASPP testing for the 2019-20 school year was from April 6 to May 22.
