Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) is an instructional model for TK-12 that supports the vision of the California English Learner Roadmap policy by strengthening educational programs and practices for English learners. Project GLAD supports the implementation of integrated English-language development (ELD) and designated ELD. This model provides full and meaningful access to a 21st century education that results in attaining high levels of language proficiency and mastery of grade level standards.

The California State Board of Education unanimously approved the California English Learner Roadmap State Board of Education Policy: Educational Programs and Services for English Learners (EL Roadmap Policy) on July 12, 2017. This policy is intended to provide guidance to local educational agencies (LEAs) on welcoming, understanding, and educating the diverse population of students who are English learners attending California public schools.
The California English Learner Roadmap: Strengthening Comprehensive Educational Policies, Programs, and Practices for English Learners (CA EL Roadmap) builds on the EL Roadmap Policy and provides further guidance on educating English learners. The CA EL Roadmap supports LEAs as they implement the EL Roadmap Policy.

VUSD has received an invitation from the CDE's Multilingual California Project to be one of the select LEAs in the state to implement the project goals and build the capacity of LEAs to implement the California English Learner Roadmap. This plan is grounded in the Quality Professional Learning Standards, and utilizes an equity-centered, continuous improvement process called Liberatory Design. To this end, VUSD has received a grant to invest in professional development in two important teaching models: Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) and WRITE. We are very proud to have been selected to contribute to the Multilingual California effort.
