Superintendent's Council for Equity and Anti Racism

The Superintendent’s Council for Equity and Anti Racism is a group of parents, students, teachers, staff, administration, community members, and board members who meet monthly with a focus on supporting systems and practices that reflect the district’s commitment to equity and anti-racism. The Superintendent’s Council uses feedback from the community, as well as data, surveys, and information from a global and national perspective to inform the equity and anti-racism recommendations that we provide to the superintendent.
In our meetings this year, the Council is discussing professional development opportunities for our staff and workshops for parents through our Vista Institute for Parents that focus on equity and anti-racism. We are also taking a close look at our discipline and grading policies through an equity lens, to identify areas we can improve as we work to close the opportunity gap and prepare all students for success in college and career. In addition to reviewing our discipline and grading policies, the Council is reviewing instructional materials, practices, and spaces to ensure they are culturally responsive.
An important part of the Superintendent's Council is to hear from our community and get actionable feedback. Our first community forum was held on Thursday, December 10th, 2020, and we had thirty-five community members participate. During this meeting, we discussed the purpose and responsibilities of the council, and community members provided feedback and suggestions regarding the council’s areas of focus. The next community forum will be Thursday, April 29th from 5:00-6:00pm.
