English Learners

The Vista Unified English Language Development (ELD) Sprint Team, as well as the Vista Unified Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Team, which included teachers and administrators, focused on building and solidifying a structure to support our English Language Learners and Dual Language Learners’ academic and linguistic needs. The team created a list of recommendations for the Reopening Plan of 2020 that prioritizes student access to curriculum and resources to support their successful academic and language development progress regardless of the learning environment.
No matter whether students return to school in a classic or virtual instructional setting, we will continue to provide Integrated and Designated ELD in order to make progress in English language proficiency towards meeting grade-level standards and academic achievement. In addition, we are committed to ensuring that teachers and students continue to have high expectations in order to achieve  standards through direct instruction in ELD.
We will seek to prioritize the ELD Standards and focus on acceleration and not remediation to make up for loss of and unfinished instructional time during our COVID-19 school closure.
Furthermore, we want to ensure that school to home connections are strengthened. We want to establish a good family support system that will include resources and educational opportunities while children are learning as well.
