Board Meeting Action Updates
August 28, 2020
The purpose of this update is to inform the community of the actions that were taken by the Board at the August 27, 2020 Special School Board meeting.

Approved - Move Items 3C & 3D before Item 3A on the agenda
Approved - Emergency Waiver of Competitive Bidding Requirements (PCC 20113) Roof and Gutter Replacement at Empresa Elementary School.
Approved - School Calendar for the 2020/2021 School Year
Board Approved Direction on ITEM 3A: School Reopening: Health & Safety Preparation and Learning Model
- Identify the type of HVAC Units (and how it operates) for each classroom at each schools
- Differentiate classrooms with opening windows vs. classrooms with two doors
- Identify the number of rooms serviced with each HVAC unit, include the max. range per unit
- Develop maps for the public to reflect these data at all grade levels
- Review the possibility of classroom assignments to prioritize rooms with windows
- Have the maps of each school communicated to parents and staff via email
- Determine the approx. number of students who have chosen Classic for every school
- Clearly communicate the classroom size (number of students) for all Classic classrooms to parents
- 6 feet social distancing will be encouraged but cannot be guaranteed
Board Approved Direction on ITEM 3B: Supplemental Support Programs
- Homeless and Foster Youth: approved to start prior to October 20, 2020
Provide social emotional support while students are in small (up to 14) cohorts on campus
Possible outside access while learning
- Special Education: approved to start prior to October 20, 2020
Plan structure of bringing students in identified groups (class sizes of 12) to campus for 2-3 days per week in 3 hour blocks
Students can be brought onto campus for assessments (3 hour blocks)
- English Learners: approved to start prior to October 20, 2020
Provide transportation as needed
Add LTEL (long term English learners) small cohorts at the 7-12 grade level
Utilize teachers with BCLAD certification (2 Learning Loss teachers have BCLAD)
- Dual Language: approved to start prior to October 20, 2020
Change proposal to 5 days per week for full day that supports students who chose the Classic learning model starting in person instruction
- Social/Emotional: approved to start prior to October 20, 2020
Include TK-12 students in small cohorts (up to 14); including Alta Vista High and MGM
- General Education: approved to start prior to October 20, 2020
Start with first grade students in small group supplemental support (up to 14) after core instruction in reading and mathematics
Explore providing small group school supplemental support across all grade spans TK-12 including courses with labs
