Multilingual Logo

Dual language immersion programs provide all students the opportunity to learn academic content in their native language while also providing academic instruction in a target language. The main goals for all dual language programs are for students to achieve strong levels of academic proficiency in all subject areas, become bilingual and biliterate in English and the target language, and to value cultural diversity.

The VUSD Dual Language Immersion Programs are build upon three pillars or program goals
  • Bilingualism and Biliteracy
  • Grade-Level Academic Achievement
  • Sociocultural Competence

 Why DLI DLI Program Models
Research has found that dual language students outperform their peers in English-only programs. Students in dual immersion programs have high levels of self-esteem, high academic competence and motivation. Students leave the program better prepared for the global job market where a second language gives them a competitive edge.

50/50 MODEL

TWO-WAY

Students enrolled in this program model will spend 50% of their day learning in English and 50% of their day learning in Spanish. Classes are also carefully created to ensure that there are native English and Native Spanish speakers in each classroom so students have the opportunity to learn from each other as well as from the teacher.
 TK-12 Pathway
The Dual Language Program is a pathway for students to work toward  earning the California Seal of Biliteracy upon high school graduation. Students enrolled in the Dual Language pathway will have the opportunity to learn in both English and Spanish through elementary, middle and high school. Students are also recognized for their effort towards the goals of bilingualism and biliteracy along the pathway.
