Martha Alvarado was elected in 2018. As Marine Corps Veteran and an elementary school teacher with almost two decades of experience, Martha is excited about serving the Vista/Oceanside community as a school board trustee. Originally from Los Angeles, she has lived in North San Diego County for over 25 years. She graduated from Palomar College while on active duty, eventually transferring to California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). In 1999, she graduated from CSUSM with honors becoming the first in her family earn a college degree. She continued her education at CSUSM, earning a bilingual teaching credential.

Martha is very proud of her son Pedro, a product of VUSD schools. He attended Temple Heights Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School, and Vista High School. He graduated with honors in 2014 earning a scholarship to Northwestern University and is currently attending graduate school at New York University.

She lives in Peacock Hills, near the Summerview, Tri-City, and Rancho Del Oro neighborhoods of the district. She represents Trustee Area 3.
