Martha Alvarado
Martha Alvarado was elected in 2018. As a Marine Corps veteran and an elementary school teacher with two decades of experience, Martha is excited about serving the Vista/Oceanside community as a school board trustee. Originally from Los Angeles, she has lived in North San Diego County for over 25 years. She graduated from Palomar College while on active duty, eventually transferring to California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). In 1999, she graduated with honors becoming the first in her family to earn a college degree. She continued her education at CSUSM, earning a bilingual teaching credential.
Martha is very proud of her son Pedro, a product of VUSD schools. He attended classes at Temple Heights Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School, and Vista High School. In 2014, he graduated from Vista High with honors earning a scholarship to Northwestern University for his undergraduate degree. In May 2020, he finished his Master’s Degree from New York University.
She lives in Peacock Hills, near the Summerview, Tri-City, and Rancho Del Oro neighborhoods of the district. She represents Trustee Area 3.
Her priorities as a trustee are to close the Opportunity Gap while increasing the number of students attending post-secondary education and to expand the dual-language programs within the district.
