Support a Classroom and Teacher Today!

Click here to visit DonorsChoose.org, a great resource for teachers to request funding support for their classroom. Teachers request funding for books, field trips, various learning materials (art supplies, calculators, Maker materials, lab equipment, etc.), items for team sports, and other items to support their projects. It's easy to search for a teacher or school and find out how you can provide a few extra dollars to help teachers meet their exciting goals and plans for your children. Thank you for your support! (Talk with a teacher today to find out if they have a project you can help fund.)

VUSD wants School Volunteers!

Want to support a school by helping out a teacher or staff member? Want to aid in a school or class project? Have an extra hour or two (or more!) every now and play a greater role in our schools? VUSD wants you to be a school Volunteer! Everybody has something to offer - time, skills, networking, a positive attitude and care! We appreciate all that our families can offer. Visit your school and plan with a staff member today to become a school volunteer. Thank you so much for your time and contributions to your child's education! See Volunteer Procedures & the application here

Nov. 2: Dia de los Muertos - Join us!

We invite you to join us in community fun at our 2nd Annual Dia de los Muertos event on November 2, from 2-7 p.m. at our FACE Center (836 Olive Ave.). This is one of our major cultural events of the year - last year we gathered 577 community members!

If you are unfamiliar with this Mexican tradition, it is a day for celebrating loved ones, ancestors, and others who have passed.

We invite everyone to come share their own traditions, as well, so we can all enjoy some learning and connecting together. We will have Lotería (Mexican bingo with pictures); face painting, art, & learning activities for all (yes, we had adults get their faces painted last year!); a mini film festival with educational videos about DDLM; delicious & traditional foods & refreshments; and an ofrendas/altars room for people to contribute their own items honoring their loved ones, to write messages, and share in storytelling. (All personal items will be returned; just let us know.)

If you would like to contribute or help decorate, contact your site liaison. If you are a community partner and want to table, please contact Kiki Bispo (jacquelinebispo@vistausd.org). EVERYONE is invited to come celebrate with us!

Our "Four Agreements": The Principles that Guide Us

Vista Unified School District's Family & Community Engagement Network created a set of guiding principles that we live by in our work with schools, families, and our community. We call them our "Four Agreements" and were inspired to create these from don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements. This is a team-created philosophy of our values and beliefs that guide and unite us in our fundamental work supporting and connecting all of those in our schools and community.

1. Always demonstrate & serve with Love & Respect.

We are rooted in the community and in love. Everyone has a story, a culture, a unique life and place in this world - we honor each one as an important branch in our community tree. We encourage love, respect, growth, and unified engagement, always.

2. Meet the needs of our families, schools, and community.

We serve the needs of others through this motto: “Make it happen.” All needs are important and we value each one as such. Strong communication and positive partnerships are integral in meeting these needs. Never give up in finding the proper resources and methods for serving. Everything we do impacts a child - make it meaningful.

3. Collaborate and support as a Family and Team.

We are one with our community and families. Unite to make things happen within our Network and with our schools, families, and community. We succeed together, learn together, and serve together.

4. Be innovative, hopeful, and strong in empowering our families.

We share in the collective power between our schools, families, and community. We promote "Strength in Numbers" and "Knowledge is Power" and encourage our families to work together in meeting shared goals. Advocate. Innovate. Motivate. Persevere. Help families strengthen their knowledge, skills, and abilities as individuals and united community members. Spread courage and strength, motivate service and partnership, maintain community health and sustainability, inspire greatness and innovation.

Students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation.
