Olive Elementary School

Olive Elementary School originally opened in 1957 in central Vista. The mission of educators there is for all students to achieve personal excellence. The goal is for all students to maximize their potential as successful lifelong learners. Character education is emphasized through schoolwide recognition of Quantum Learning’s Eight Keys of Excellence. Students have an opportunity to give back to the community through the Peace Patrol – a peer mediation program – and Student Council, where older students work together to plan spirit days, food and coin drives, community outreach projects, and fundraisers.

Educators, students, parents and community work together to provide educational opportunities and support for everyone. Parent involvement and community support is integral to students' success, Lavado said. Parents there participate in their children’s education by becoming involved with the PTA, English Language Advisory Committee, School Site Council and by volunteering in the classroom.  The PTA supports many activities at the school, such as the Running Club, schoolwide assemblies and the annual Arts Night. Parents also are invited to attend monthly “Coffee with the Principal” Meetings and other events such as Family Math Night.

Olive has 407 students in kindergarten through fifth grade and 20 teachers.  In 2011, the school relocated from its original location to the neighboring Washington Middle School campus. The school is supported by Vista Kiwanis, Rancho Buena Vista Key Club, and Vista Rotary.
