Educational Excellence


Educational Excellence provides the primary direction and guidance to all aspects of the Vista Unified School District educational programs including the following departments: Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, Student Services and Adult Education. The primary goal is to assist schools to deliver high quality instruction which inspires each and every student to persevere as critical thinking individuals who collaborate to solve real world problems and are College and Career ready through the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Instructional Services works collaboratively with parents, teachers, support staff, school and the community to promote student learning in support of district goals. 


REGISTER NOW! 2018 Summer Blast Certificated PD Pilot



The Curriculum and Instruction team is excited to offer the 2018 Summer Blast TK-12 Professional Development Pilot, a paid opportunity for certificated staff to attend timely professional development opportunities which aligns to the top three Board goals.


The event will take place at Vista High School with presentations from VUSD certificated staff and other experts in the educational community.


Dates: June 18 - June 21, 2018 (Monday - Thursday)


Four session periods will be offered each day.  


Summer Blast Bell Schedule:



Session 1

8:30 AM - 9:50 AM

Session 2

9:55 AM -11:15 AM  


11:20 AM - 12:15 PM

Session 3

12:15 PM - 1:35 PM

Session 4

1:40 PM - 3:00 PM

Registering:  Session scheduling will be managed by the Mobile Web App SCHED.

Tips when Registering:

  • Register early; sessions may fill quickly. There will be no wait list options.

  • Remember that there are four days of PD offerings!  Take advantage of using the filters offered within the scheduling program to help simplify building your schedule! For example: use the “Filter by Date” option found on the right side of the screen.


Presenters: Teachers and Administrators who are scheduled to present a session should choose the session(s) they are presenting when building their personal schedule.


Personal Schedule:  Once you have created your personal schedule you will be able to access your schedule using your laptop, Chromebook or mobile device. No printed copies of schedules will be distributed the day of the event.


Technology:  A device will be needed to access your personal schedule. Please bring your district laptop. Chromebooks will be available for check-out.  Your mobile device can be used to access your SCHED schedule, too!


Compensation for Attendance:  Teachers will be paid hourly for their attendance at each offered session; lunch time is on your own. Participating teachers should pick up a Summer Blast Time Card in the morning prior to start of sessions.

Teachers need to sign-in at each session and keep track of their attendance on the Summer Blast Time Card.


Detailed instructions for completing the Summer Blast Time Card will be included with the card at pick up time.  Please ensure that you read the guidelines for submission carefully.
