Foothill Oak Elementary School

fho.jpeg

Foothill Oak Elementary School opened 2004 in northeastern Vista, and many of the employees who helped start the school are still there. Educators there celebrate literacy and mathematical reasoning. They actively embrace the Common Core State Standards and 21st century skills. Conversations focus on how to continually improve students’ confidence, self-worth, and academic ability.

A partnership with Cal State San Marcos University brings in college students to read and play sports with the children while collecting community service credit. Third-grade students and teachers also are involved with the Dream Institute through the university.

Foothill Oak has partnered with Computers 2 San Diego Kids who, so far, have provided 170 refurbished, low cost computers to our families. Love on a Leash comes to the school once a week with as many as seven therapy dogs that children are able to read to.

The school serves about 660 students in preschool through fifth grade. Most of the teachers there have earned master’s degrees. Three have even earned State Board Certification. An art coach also comes once a week to teach lessons.
