Vista Magnet Middle School for Technology, Science and Math opened in 2007 in the campus built in 1938 that was once Vista High School and Lincoln Junior High. The three goals that drive instruction at the school are to provide distinct choices for students with different interests, talents and aptitudes, to develop innovative instructional practices which aid student success, and to develop a sense of community an promote diversity.
“Our vision is that all members are respected, valued and empowered at VMMS to be socially responsible makers in the 21st Century,” Principal Jose Manuel Villarreal said.
The curriculum stresses writing and reading as well as the themes of technology, science and math. The school is in the process of implementing the rigorous International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
Vista Magnet Middle School serves about 600 students in grades six through eight and has 29 teachers.
