Boundary Committee

Attached are VUSD's new Middle School Boundaries, beginning Fall 2014.

M/S Attendance Re-Alignment Committee

Washington Middle School (WMS) will be closing as of June 30, 2014. Opening July 1, 2014, will be Magnet School "Vista Innovation and Design Academy" (VIDA). Therefore, Middle School boundaries must be re-aligned for the WMS boundary area only. The boundaries for Madison, Rancho Minerva Middle School and Roosevelt Middle School will grow but the sizes of those three middle schools may not grow since students will instead attend either VIDA or Vista Magnet Middle School (VMMS).

This short-term and singular purposed Middle School Attendance Re-Alignment Committee was formed and comprised of representatives from Madison, Rancho Minerva, Roosevelt and Washington Middle Schools, along with representatives from VUSD's two unions-CSEA and VTA. This Superintendent’s Advisory Committee met in early January, 2014, to make a recommendation to the Superintendent, who would then take the recommendation to the January 16th School Board meeting where the ultimate decision would be made. This Committee concept has been successful with other Committees in the past.

This Committee planned to have two meetings. However, during the first and only meeting, a unanimous option for the Washington Middle School boundary re-alignment was accomplished!

The report which was presented at the January 16th School Board meeting may be accessed here, along with the three proposed boundary maps: Option A-Even Distribution Relative to School Capacities; Option B-Alignment to Major Roads; and Option C-Current Elementary Attendance Areas. Option B map was the one which was recommended and approved by the School Board. This attendance re-alignment will be effective July 1, 2014.
